Imphal, December 31 2009: One suspected UG cadre was shot dead by troops of 8 AR during a reported encounter at Tuisenjang area of Chandel district last night.

According to a press release issued by the PRO of Hqs IG AR (S), the AR troops launched a search operation in the area last night.

At about 7.45 pm, suspicious movement of militants was noticed.

On being challenged, the AR troops came under heavy fire who retaliated immediately.

One militant was killed in the ensuing gun-fight.

One 9 mm pistol with a magazine, five live rounds and a grenade was recovered the possession of the slain cadre.

The grenade was destroyed in situ.

Quoting local people, the PRO identified the slain individual as one Noren (24) of Awang Sekmai.

The corpse and the recovered items have been handed over to Imphal West PS.
