SUN Club warns of general strike

Imphal, March 17 2009: Claiming that Akoijam Priyobarta Singh @ Bochou s/o Ak Rajen Singh of Mongsangei who was allegedly killed at Langol by a team of Imphal West police commando on the night of March 15 was an innocent, the Social Union Nascent (SUN) Club, Mongsangei has warned to call a 48-hour general strike in case the Government fails to render justice and relief measures to the bereaved family within three days time.

A press statement signed by the Secretary of the Club, Surendra Soraisam said that Akoijam Priyobarta was neither involved in any unlawful activity nor was a member of any insurgent group.

It said that he left his home around 4.30pm on March 15 and added that his blue-coloured Pulsar motorcycle bearing registration number MN-1-M-5073, a Samsung mobile phone with SIM number 9856342839 and a sum of Rs 8000 have been found missing.

The statement also said that the public meeting held on March 16 in connection with the killing of Priyobarta has decided to call 48 hours general strike if the government fails to bring justice and redress the grievance of the deceased family.
