Imphal, May 31 2009: One suspected UG cadre has been slain in a reported encounter with a combined force of security forces on an intervillage road connecting Kakching and Pallel, about 4 kms South-East of Kakching police station at about 6.45 pm today.

The encounter ensued when a combined team of 20 AR and Thoubal police commandos were attacked by some unidentified persons while the security personnel were performing their normal duty, informed a police source.

The security team retaliated resulting in a shoot-out for about five minutes before the unidentified persons fled under cover of the darkness.

Later, a youth was found shot dead by the road-side when the security personnel searched the area after the shoot-out ceased.

One AK 56 rifle, 13 live rounds, 10 empty cases and a Kenwood wireless set were also recovered from the spot.

The corpse has been deposited at RIMS mortuary.
