Imphal, July 06 2009: The identities of the two dead bodies whom the Assam Rifles gunned down on July 4 last at Ril Ram village under Tengnoupal police station in Chandel district have been established today.

The persons were Kongkham Basant alias Babu (25) son of (L) K Babutonbi of Jiri Kamranga Sorok Atingbi, and Mutum Michael (34) son of M Biren of Lalambung Makha Leikai.

Family members said K Basant alias Babu has joined the PLA ten years ago while Michael, who is survived by his two children, is said to have joined the KYKL since November last year.

Their bodies have been claimed by respective family members today after conducting postmortem at RIMS morgue.

Meanwhile, the dead body of a person who was gunned down by the Imphal West district police commando in a reported encounter on June 30 last at Hiyangthang Chandrani under Wangoi police station has been lying as unidentified body at RIMS morgue.
