Imphal, July 13 2009: An underground suspect was gunned down by a combined force of the Thoubal district police commandos and 34th AR tonight around 8.40 in a reported encounter near the Fishery gate, Wangbal under Thoubal police station.

One 9mm pistol and a Chinese made hand grenade were said to be recovered from the possession of the slain suspected UG, according to a report.

The body has been deposited at the police station.

The identity of the slain man could not be established immediately.

The body will be brought to RIMS morgue for identification and post mortem, the report said.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated incident, unidentified miscreants had lobbed a hand grenade at the house of an FCS Transport contractor, Thangjam Leishang (37) located at Samaram Mayai Leikai under Thoubal police station yesterday around 9.30pm.The miscreants were also said to have fired two rounds of gunfire.

The bomb was defused this morning by the bomb experts of the Manipur police.
