Imphal, February 09 2009: Some unknown armed persons shot a woman, who is the wife of a police constable, injuring her in her chest in a mysterious incident which happened at New Heaven village, about 2 kms south of Litan police station in Ukhrul district around 12.30 pm today.

The injured woman has been identified as Ayao Vasun @ Mingyola (42), wife of Robin Vasun of Kharasom village of Ukhrul and currently residing at Chingmeirong Tangkhul Avenue.

Robin Vasun is a police constable and presently posted as the driver of the SP Ukhrul district.

The shooting incident occurred when Ayao was going to Kharasom in a passenger jeep with other occupants.

The unknown gunman opened fire upon her when she was getting ready to relieve herself on the roadside as the jeep stopped near New Heaven village.

The identity of the gunman and the motive behind the shooting are not known.

The family of the victim expressed suspicion that she might have been hit by an accidental shot.

The woman sustained a bullet injury in the right chest and penetrated through the belly.

She is at present being treated at Shija Hospitals.

Police have registered a case regarding the shooting incident.
