Imphal, October 07 2009: A rebel was killed by troops of 31 Assam Rifles in reported encounter near the Indo-Myanmar border pillar no.81, under Moreh police station in the wee hour today, a report said.

An AK-47 rifles along with a magazine loaded with 10 live rounds and two Chinese grenade recovered from the slain rebel.

The dead body along with the recovered items has been handed over to the Moreh police station stated the IGAR (south).

The statement expressed that on seeing undergrounds moving in suspicious manner the troops of 31 AR challenged them to stop but they opened fired and lobbed hand grenade towards the troops in which the troops retaliated resulting to the killing of one of undergrounds.

Meanwhile, troops of 22 Grenadiers recovered a pressure activated IED from general area of Tuivang yesterday at about 11.40 am.

The IED weighted around 600 gm, 6 inches in length, 3 inches in diameter was destroyed at the spot safely later, the IGAR (S) statement added.
