Imphal, August 29 2009: The Joint Action Committee (JAC) against the killing of Kumarjit - killed in a reported encounter on August 24 at Toubul in Bishnupur district by a combined security forces - has called 24-hour general strike beginning from 5pm of August 31 to protest the killing.

It may be mentioned that Kumarjit was killed by a combined force of Bishnupur district police commandos and 4/8 Gorkha Rifles on August 24 around 4.30 am in Bishnupur district.

A JAC has been formed against the killing, which deeply suspects that Kumarjit might have been killed in a fake encounter.

A spokesperson of the JAC said it will call 24-hour general strike against the killing.
