Imphal, March 09 2009: Troops of 29 Assam Rifles reportedly shot dead a suspect cadre of the proscribed UNLF during an encounter at Ril Ram Centre and Bongli areas under Tengnoupal Police Station of Chandel district at around 6 pm yesterday.

According to AR PRO, based on specific information regarding the movement of armed UG cadres, the troops launched operation in the area and laid multiple ambush.

At about 6 pm, the troop noticed some movement and challenged the individual to stop.

But instead of stopping, the UG suspect fired back with a lethode round at the troops who retaliated the firing and eliminated the UG.

One US-made lethode, two live rounds of lethode and three grenades (destroyed in situation) have ben recovered from the possession of the slain UG cadre, the PRO Assam Rifles informed.
