JAC demands enquiry

Imphal, January 29 2009: With the constitution of a JAC against the killing of Thangjam Haridas (31) s/o Deben of Churachandpur Khumujamba Meitei Leikai by Imphal West commandos on Imphal river bank near Khuman Lampak yesterday, the JAC has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister demanding judicial enquiry into the killing.

Haridas was running a motor car workshop near Churachandpur Government College.

He left for Imphal to buy automobile parts and to pay LIC premium on January 28 .

He was also awaiting results of the written test for recruitment of IRB, mentioned the memorandum.

In addition to judicial enquiry, the JAC has been demanding befitting punishment to the commando personnel involved in the killing, ex-gratia and a suitable Government job to a member of the bereaved family.

The JAC further cautioned that intense forms of agitation will be launched if there is no positive response from the Government within 48 hours.

As said by the Chief Minister to meet again together with the concerned Superintendent of Police, JAC functionaries are likely to meet the Chief Minister tomorrow again.
