Imphal, January 25 2009: Even though a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the State Government has been instituted to probe into the killing of junior sub-editor of Imphal Free Press, Konsam Rishikanta, the investigation team has not been able to make any headway.

Konsam Rishikanta was found shot dead near the Second Home of Sangai located behind Langol Games Village in the afternoon of November 17 last year.

He had reportedly gone out from home on some errand in the morning of the same day.

After a series of agitation including suspension of publication by the newspaper houses in the State for 13 consecutive days starting from November 19, the State Government finally instituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) head by an IG of the Home Department to probe into the killing.

In connection with the investigation, an official of the Home Department informed that so far statements of over 40 persons including some police commandos, journalists and villagers of the surrounding area where the body was found have been recorded.

But so far, no definite conclusion has been arrived at.
