Imphal, April 22 2009: Troops of 29 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector under Hqs IGAR (S) gunned down two UNLF cadres at Indo-Myanmar border Pillar No 84 today.

A statement issued PRO Hqs IGAR (S) said that the troops launched an operation in the area on getting specific information regarding the presence of UG cadres.

At around 12.45 pm the troops detected some movements across the border, said the PRO and added that on being challenged, the two UNLF cadres tried to flee while firing towards the AR troops.

The two cadres were killed in the retaliatory firing.

One 9 mm pistol loaded with five live bullets, one .32 revolver loaded with three live rounds and eight Chinese hand grenades were recovered from the slain cadres, added the release.
