Imphal, November 16 2008: All the incidents of encounters that reportedly took place in New Keithelmanbi area, bordering Imphal West district and Senapati district along NH 53 were fake encounters.

The reported shoot-outs in the area were nothing but killing of apprehended persons by security personnel after bringing them there, alleged villagers of 19 villagers located in and around the area.

A community meeting participated by chiefs of the 19 villages and women's organisations of the area was held at New Keithelmanbi community hall today.

While unanimously denouncing the alleged fake encounters, the meeting decided to stage a sit-in-protest on November 23 .

The meeting also appealed to all security personnel to stop killing apprehended people at New Keithelmanbi area.

People of different communities who attended the meeting further agreed to fight together in the event of any repetition of killing apprehended people by security forces in their area.

They also decided to submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister detailing all the resolutions adopted in the meeting and to urge upon the Chief Minister to take up necessary actions so as to check the alleged fake encounters.

Today's meeting was held in the backdrop of the reported November 11 encounter between UG cadres and a combined force of 32 AR and 23 AR at New Keithelmanbi in which one suspected KYKL cadre was killed.

Earlier on November 1, a combined force of Imphal West commandos and troops of 16 AR shot dead one suspected KCP (MC) cadre at Khonglong.

This was after three KCP (MC) suspects were killed by the same combined security team in another reported encounter at Thangjing Chiru on September 24 .

Two other suspected UG cadres were also shot dead by this combined team at Khonglong on September 1 .

On the other hand, two CRPF jawans were killed in an ambush undertaken by KYKL cadres at Khonglong on August 7.More recently, the proscribed UNLF claimed of attacking the 9 Sector AR Headquarters at New Keithelmanbi.

Today's all community meeting held at New Keithelmanbi community hall was attended by secretary of the New Keithelmanbi Bazar Development Committee H Manglem, Lhongchin village chief Lutpao Killong, Namgailong village chief K Athoi, secretary of the New Keithelmanbi Meira Paibi Lup Paonam Mema, finance secretary of the Nongchup Imphal Loumi-Shinmi Chaokhat Thourang Lup Yaima Chingkham and NIPCO president Y Nabachandra as presidium members.
