Imphal, February 13: The All Manipur Truck Owners Welfare Assn and Manipur Local Truck Owners' Assn have decided to boycott duty in the second phase election on Feb 21 over the differences in vehicle lending rates with the Govt.Functionaries of the two bodies today said they will boycott service until an agreement is brought about.

The transporters are demanding service rates under the 1996 Gazette Notification of the Government which earmarked the rates as Rs 1663 for heavy truck, Rs 1248 for medium truck and Rs 832 for light truck.

The fuel charge should also be borne by the users.

On the other Government is bent, on implementing the 1999 Gazette Notification which has quoted higher rates as Rs 1941 for heavy trucks, Rs 1518 for medium trucks and Rs 1038 for light trucks.

However, the fuel charge has to be borne by the vehicle owners.

The contention of the drivers is that they could not work under the newer guidelines as there is no fix amount of fuel as the vehicles are to be used by the security personnel.

So the vehicle charge will has to be used in paying for fuels.

The transporters are also unhappy that Transport Authorities requisitioned the vehicles without giving prior information.

They regretted that the Chief Electoral Officer notified that the rates will be under the 1999 notification after the vehicles had been already roped in.
