Imphal, February 06 2009: Both the UG suspects shot dead in a reported encounter with a combined team of Imphal West commandos and troops of 39 AR at Tandongyang under Sekmai police station at about 7.05 pm yesterday have been identified.

They were Md Zakir Hussain (27) s/o Mouluvi Saheruddin of Thoubal Moijing Wangma Taba and Md Safiur Rehman (23) s/o late Md Ahmad Zamal of Thoubal Khekman Amakcham.

It is reported that both of them were contractors.

The two deceased along with Md Hamidur alias Ibo (35), Md Jiaur Rehman (25) of Moijing Wangma Taba and Akbar Khan (35) of Moijing Awang Leikai went out in a car (Maruti Alto) with Assam registration number last morning.

It is reported that Md Hamidur is an escort of Churachandpur Superintendent of Police.

Jiaur Rehman is also a police personnel while Akbar Khan is an advocate.

The three other persons and the car belonging to deceased Safiur Rehman could not be located till the time of filing this report.

On the other hand, a joint action committee has been constituted against the killing of Zakir and Safiur.

A large number of people was marching from Thoubal Moijing to Imphal to register their protest with the Chief Minister this morning.

But they were blocked by police at Lilong.

However, some representatives went past the police barricade to meet the Chief Minister.

Meanwhile, the identity of the man found dead at Khuman Lampak on February 2 has been established as Bikram Tamang (45) s/o Bahadur Tamang of Kanglatongbi Shantipur.

It is reported that Bikram was suffering from epilepsy. The corpse has been claimed by family members after post mortem at RIMS today.
