State rings out security alert post Assam blast

Imphal, October 30 2008: Taking serious note of the serial bomb blast in the neighbouring State of Assam today, the State Government has put its security apparatus on high alert to thwart any subversive activities from any elements.

The stepped-up security measures assume greater significance as the State is celebrating its biggest festival Ningol Chakkouba tomorrow followed by Kut festival on November 1 .

Already, the State Government has enhanced security measures after the recent bomb attack just in front of the Chief Minister's official residence and the powerful bomb blast at Pandol on October 21 which claimed 17 lives besides injuring more than 30 people.

Imphal West Senior SP L Kailun who has been personally supervising security arrangements in Imphal town said that necessary security measures have been taken up to prevent any attack by UG groups.

Incidentally, the Khwairamband market is witnessing on of its busiest days as shoppers go around for their last minute shopping ahead of the Ningol Chakkouba festival.

"Security forces have been conducting frisking of suspected people at all entry and exit points of Khwairamband market covering Paona Bazar, Thangal Bazar, BT Road, Alu Galli, Dharamsala etc.

I personally supervise the arrangements.

The security measures have been tightened all the more following the serial blasts in Assam", the SP said.
