Imphal, January 28 2009: One suspected UG cadre has been slain in a reported encounter by Imphal West commandos on Imphal river bank, adjacent to the Khuman Lampak entrance at about noon today.

The encounter was with a team of Imphal West commandos on patrolling duty in Khuman Lampak area, informed a police source.

One hand grenade has been recovered from the slain individual, added the source.

One driving licence in the name of one Th Haridas of Churachandpur Khumujamba Meitei Leikai was also recovered from the slain man.

The corpse has been deposited at RIMS mortuary.

In another incident A 32-year old youth who had gone on the trail of an abductd person was found shot at his chest by unidentified armed persons even as a passenger jeep was set aflame after being hijacked.

According to police report, K Chinglen (22) of Lamshang Sairem Khul who works as a cook in Imphal West Police Control had been abducted by some unidentified armed persons from the venue of a Thabalchongba programme held at Sairem Khul under Police Station at around 10.30 pm yesterday.

Looking for the abducted Chinglen, his elder brother Loyangamba and 32-year old Leishangthem Jiten of the same locality had gone in the latter's two wheeler.

However, as the duo was on the trail of Chinglen, Jiten was detained by the armed persons and later he was found shot at on his right chest at Tairenpokpi Yangbi Lok Machin.

Jiten has been admitted to Shija Hospital and Research Institute, where his condition is stated to be critical.

According to another source, a passenger jeep which had been hijacked by some unidentified armed persons from Lamshang Maning Haorang Sabal at around 12.30 pm today was later found set aflame at Lamdong Chingin.

The rear portion of the jeep has been burnt beyond redemption.

The registration no.of the ill-fated jeep is MN1A-6882 and the owner has been identified as one Abujam Chao Singh of Salam Khul.
