Satish's corpse disposed off as 'unclaimed body'

Imphal, May 26 2009: State authorities have disposed off mortal remains of Loitongbam Satish as 'unclaimed body' this evening.

family members of the deceased had been refusing to accept police claim that Satish was a UG member slain by a combined team of Thoubal police commandos and troops of 23 AR during an alleged encounter on May 18 evening at near Laikot Ching.

Family members and a body (JAC) formed in connection with the killing had been contending that L Satish of Singjamei oinam Thingel along with one Gunendro Pebiya was apprehended by the security team from Sajiwa Jail road junction on May 16 afternoon before being done to death in a stage-managed encounter at Laikot Ching.

The same combined team insisted that Gunendro was apprehended from near the encounter site on May 19 morning and handed him over to police as a PLA cadre.

Even though Satish's father reportedly identified the deceased at RIMS morgue yesterday after which post mortem examination proceeded.

However the corpse had to be disposed off (cremated) as family members refused to claim it.

mention may be made that, Gunendro after being released on bail, had accused the combined security team of killing Satish after arrest.

Deceased identified: Out of two suspected PREPAK activists slain by troops of 34 Assam Rifles last evening at Thoubal Khunou Chingya area identity of one has been established as Chingakham Manimohan (21) s/o Ch Gambhir of Yairipok Poiroukhongjin.

Family members, who identified Manimohan at RIMS morgue today, claimed that the youth was apprehended by some unidentified persons who came in a white colour Maruti car yesterday.
