Two UG suspects slain

Imphal, March 24 2009: Two suspected UG cadres have been slain in two separate incidents of encounter with security forces in the last 48 hours.

One UG suspect was slain in a reported encounter with a combined team of Thoubal police commandos and troops of 21 AR at Tonsen Lamkhai at about 6.30 pm yesterday.

According to a press release issued by SSP of Tpolice, houbal Clay Khongsai, the combined team was on patrolling duty along Waikhong-Sugnu axis when they were fired upon with sophisticated weapons by suspected militants at Tonsen Lamkhai.

The combined team retaliated swiftly and an encounter ensued for about 5/7 minutes.

On searching the area after the shoot-out, one suspected militant was found killed as one 9 mm pistol with magazine and three live rounds were recovered from the encounter site.

The second incident of reported shoot-out took place Tairenpokpi Maning Leikai under Lamsang police station at about 4.30 pm today where a combined force of Imphal West commandos and troops of 16 AR gunned down a suspected KYKL cadre.

One sten gun and magazine with live rounds and a magazine of AK rifle containing 15 live rounds were recovered from the slain individual, informed a police source.

Police have picked up the corpse and deposited at RIMS mortuary.

The individual was wearing casual trousers, and a T-shirt striped horizontally in black and grey.

He appeared to be about 30 years in age and had his ears pierced.
