Imphal, February 24, 2010: Unidentified persons carried out attacks at private residences of some Government officials in the past few days hours with monetary demands of UG groups believed to be reason behind these acts.

In the first instance, miscreants lobbed a hand-grenade at the Kshetrigao residence of Manipur Rural bank's manager namely Md Safir (34) at around 7 am today.

Personnel of police bomb squad retrieved the Chinese hand-grenade which has been safely exploded at a Yaralpat location.

On the otherhand, local women folk staged a sit-in-protest in denunciation of firing attack at the Tera Sapam Leirak residence of Mayanglambam Biren (56), who is the Deputy Finance Officer of Manipur University.

Two unidentified persons fired two round of shots at the house on February 16 evening, a source said.

As locals along with members of Lamlai Development Committee, Lamlai Students' Ideal Club and Lamlai Meira Paibi Lup staged the protest Lamlai-Challou Keithel remained shut during the protest hour.

The protestors, decrying such acts of violence also demand clarification from the group, if any, concerned.
