BJP blames SPF Govt for volatile law and order situation

Imphal, May 19 2009: With the law and order situation of Manipur degrading by the day and the number of deaths increasing in the name of counter insurgency, the Manipur wing of the BJP has blamed the Congress led SPF Government for the situation adding the motive of the Indian Army who had come to maintain law and order of the state was now clear and that they were taking advantage of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, AFSPA, 1958 .

In an exclusive chat with the Newmai News Network (NNN), Borobabu, president of BJP Manipur Pradesh observed there would be no solution to killings in Manipur and lamented the situation of the state.

Blaming the State Govt for the law and order situation, the president held the Govt responsible for the killing of individuals in the name of counter insurgency at will by the army personnel at will.

This situation of lawlessness is an evidence in itself that the ruling Govt is unable maintain or sustain the law and order of the situation, added Borobabu.

Asserting further that the law and order situations in the hills and valley have gone out of control, the BJP president asserted there would be no solution to killings in the state.

He also observed the real motive of the Indian army was clear in their act of killing at will taking advantage of the AFSPA.

Clarifying on the case of Pebam Gunindro, 45, who was reportedly arrested Saturday, May 16, and handed over to Lamlai police station in Imphal Tuesday by personnel of 23 AR as suspected cadres of the People's Liberation Army (PLA), Borobabu said that Gunindro was an ex-vice president of the BJP Manipur Pradesh Youth Committee and an ex-candidate of Naoriya Pakhanglakpa Kendra in Imphal West during the last general assembly.

He also informed the party met Gunindro after he was arrested.

Meanwhile, referring to Loitongbam Satish alias Tomba, 34, s/o L.Sarat Singh of Singjamei Oinam Thingel who was reportedly arrested with Gunindro but later found killed, the BJP State president asserted individuals should be given fair trials.

Even if a person, one should his guilt or crime, added Borobabu further while accusing the government of the degrading law and order.
