Imphal, October 18: Despite stringent security measures taken up by the State security forces, United Committee Manipur (UCM) along with other various organizations staged mass sit in protest at Moirang Bazar and Ningthoukhong area of Bishnupur district today.

Women vendors of Moirang Bazar numbering about 100 staged a dharna at the Bazar this morning from around 11 protesting against the Government's unclear stand at the ongoing NSCN (IM)-GoI peace talks.

Later in the afternoon a mass sit in protest was also organized at Ningthoukhong Bazar by the local meira paibis and women vendors under the aegis of UCM.

Bishnupur district police arrested four women in its attempt to foil the protest.

On the third day of the mass protest programme against attempt to distort the territorial integrity of Manipur and demand for confirmation of NSCN (IM)-Government of India ceasefire limit the UCM also organized similar public protest at Wabagai area of Thoubal today.

Wabagai people mostly women folks took part in a rally organized as part of UCM's five day agitation programme.

Wearing black badges the womenfolk numbering around 1000 took part at the Wabagai Bazar rally from 10.30 am and lasted for about one and half hour, said UCM sources adding shops and other business establishments were closed during the rally.

Similar rallies would be held at Lamlai, Yaingangpokpi and Saijang areas of Imphal East district tomorrow, it disclosed.
