Ukhrul, August 18 2009: Scores of social organization of Ukhrul district have strongly resented the Assam Rifles PRO's recent allegation published in local dailies on the August 12 encounter at Shakok village under Phungyar sub-division terming as the cheapest propaganda to safe their skin with arrogance despite the full knowledge of the incident.

In a press hand out made available to this correspondent singed by the presidents of Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), Tangkhul Shinao Long (TSL), Tankhul Katamnao Shak Long (TKS), Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long (TMNL), Tangkhul Naga Wungnao Long (TNWL) and Naga People Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR) coordinator while referring to the allegation that massive protest at Ukhrul against the excesses of the AR in Shakok village on August 12 last was at the behest of the of the NSCN (IM), alleged that resorting to such baseless insinuations have been the modus operandi of the Assam Rifles, adding that such statement point to the inability of the Assam rifles to understand the desire of the Naga people for peace and justice.

Maintaining further that, the professionalism of the Assam Rifles during their recent military operations is hard for them to believe given the fact that they have recorded statements from the villagers in the areas that categorically established that the Assam Rifles resorted to tactics that violate the physical and emotional security of the villagers.

The social organization amplified by pointing out that mass movements of the Nagas have been in place since the beginning of the last century and such statement from the Assam Rifles were desperate attempts to cover up their excesses and wrong doings.

'The conscience of the people is very clear, we want just peace in our land, and we will not allow the Assam Rifles to simply kill the peace on their own whims and fancy by letting the spark on our mists", they said.

Assam Rifles' tag, "Friends of the hill people' aimed at winning the people no longer serves any purpose rather it is translated by the hill people as killer of the hill people and enemy of the hill people, they remarked.

Stating that, the declaration adopted at the torch rally on August 16 at the TNL ground reaffirmed and committed to the peaceful and just resolution of the Indo-Naga political peace process.

Establishing that in case the Assam Rifles do not know, as evinced by the ignorant statement issued by the PRO IGAR (S), the Nagas in general and the Tangkhuls in particular is mature and intelligent enough to make their own decision and formulate their own opinions.

Considering all these, the question of the NSCN (IM) influencing the opinion of the common people does not arise and will not rise, the civil organisations clarified.
