Imphal, March 17 2010: A youth has been killed by the personnel of Imphal West District police commandos in yet another controversial circumstances as family as well as locals of Sega Road Jailer Leirak where the slain youth hailed from today threatened to launch agitations demanding probe into the killing incident.

Imphal West distirct police commandos gunned down a youth yesterday, at about 2.55 pm in an alleged encounter at Taothong Apheibi under Lamshang Police Station.

The body was identified today as that of Khumbongmayum Orshonjit (19), son of Kh Ibo of Sega Road Jailer Road.

Police, while claiming that the youth suspected to be an underground cadre was killed in an encounter with Imphal West District police commandos, said that a .32 pistol loaded with two live rounds along with an Activa Honda (MN01M-8382) was recovered from the slain suspect.

Family while identifying the dead body said that Orshonjit was not an underground activist but was earning livelihood working as a supplier of fuel for TataIndicom mobile operator.

He went out yesterday at about 9.30 am on his Honda Activa for servicing the scooter at a workshop.

His dead body was found at RIMS morgue while the family was tracing his whereabouts after he was reported to have been picked up by police on his way at about 11.30 am.

A public meeting held at the locality this afternoon formed a JAC and condemned the Manipur Police commandos for killing the "innocent" youth and lamented that the police commandos have snatched the right to life of the people.

The meeting resolved to press the government to punish the police commandos involved in the killing of Orshonjit by conducting an inquiry into the incident and deliver justice in the killing.

It also resolved to launch various forms of agitations if the government fails to fulfill the demands of the JAC within 24 hours starting from the submission of the demand to the authority.

The controversy over the killing erupted while another issue of "fake encounter" killing of a youth from Sekmaijin by the Thoubal police commandos is heating up with the local people of the area blocking the Mayai Lambi road indefinitely starting from 6 am today.
