Imphal, October 13: Asserting that declaration of ceasefire between the Govt of India and NSCN (IM) has created an uneasy situation in some States of the North Eastern Region, Manipur National Conference (MNC) has stated that the SPF Government should take into confidence the opinion of political parties and organizations concerned to allay the apprehension of the public.

Doubting sincerity of the NDA Government to work out a solution to the Naga problem, MNC pointed out that instead of pursuing a decisive policy, the over six year old truce has created division among various sections of the NE people.

Elaborating on the charges the MNC statement said that Centre's interlocutor in the peace talks K Padmanabhaiah has been insisting on the setting up of a panel to accentuate to amalgamate Senapati and Ukhrul districts of Manipur and Tirap of Arunachal Pradesh to Nagaland.

Moreover NSCN (IM) cadres have been violating the ground rules of the ceasefire frequently, said the statement.

Referring to the recent arrest and subsequent release of 13 NSCN (IM) members including some of its top leaders, the MNC accused the Central Government of failing to rein in the underground members while attributing the current turmoil in Manipur to immature handling of the matter by SPF Govt.It said public apprehension regarding the State Government's credibility of facing such sensitive issue has been increased as the latter failed to address the matter from the legal perspective as well as scant respect to public sentiment.

Asserting that MNC would have never gone against the wishes of the people the statement questioned how Govt of India could accommodate Padmanabhaiah's point as merger of Manipur to the Indian Union meant not only the people but also concerned its territory.

In case some portions of Manipur are to be distorted the Merger Agreement itself should be reviewed and Govt of India invite representatives of Manipur before resorting to any move detrimental to the State interest, observed the MNC statement.

Coming down heavily of the NSCN (IM) organization, MNC said terror unleashed by its activists specially along the National Highway 39 and 53 could be assumed as action with approval of Centre to create chasm amongst the people.

To adequately deal with such situation Manipur Government need to take into confidence all the political parties and organization to devise strategies for preservation of the State boundary.
