Imphal, June 12 2009: Imphal East Police Commandos have reportedly shot dead a suspected UG during an encounter which took place at Chingmeirong Mamang Leikai at around 11.30 am today.

According to police report, the encounter broke out when the Commandos rushed in on receipt of specific information about the presence of some UG cadres in the area.

One 9 mm pistol, three live rounds of ammunition and five empty cases have been recovered from the site of the encounter, the police report said, adding that the body has been picked up and deposited at the mortuary of RIMS Hospital.

After the encounter, the Commandos also launched a massive search operation and apprehended two suspected female UG cadres, the police report added.

In another incident a suspected militant was shot dead in an encounter with a team of Imphal East police commandos at Top Khewa in Imphal East today at about 8.40 pm, said police sources.

One 9 mm pistol was recovered from the slain man, whose identity is yet to be established.

Meanwhile, the identity of the UG suspect who was shot dead by a combined force of Thoubal District Police Commandos and personnel of 20 Assam Rifles during an encounter in the surrounding area of Pallel and Unapal under Kakching Police Station in Thoubal District on the night of June 8 has not yet been established.

The body is still lying at RIMS morgue.

According to a statement issued by Kakching Police, the deceased appeared to be around 24 years of age with round face, fair complexion, lean body, black short hair and 5 feet 3 inches tall.

The deceased was clad in black and white stripped Nylon T-shirt, jean pant and hunting boots.

If one body claimed the body by June 14, the same would be disposed off, the statement added.
