Imphal, April 11: In a significant development, M Naobi Chanu who raised the allegations of sexual molestation against Thoubal police commandos has submitted her affidavit to the Rajkhowa Inquiry Commission which has been instituted to probe the matter.

The affidavit was filed on April 7, said a well placed source and added that a team of lawyers led by Th Modhu and Ch Ngongo will appear on behalf of Naobi who hails from Yairipok Leirongthel Pitra in Thoubal district.

Another three affidavits on behalf of Naobi will also be submitted to the panel in the next few days, said the source.

Naobi was picked up by Thoubal police commandos on February 21 this year from the residence of a PLA cadre, Kh Bikash who took part in the attack that killed the OC of Thoubal police commandos N Lokhon.

The Court on March 2 released Naobi on the ground that the police could not substantiate the charges levelled against her.

On being released, Naobi alleged that she was sexually molested by the police commandos while in their custody.

The State police will also file an affidavit in the same case before the Commission, said the source and added that it has already conveyed to the probe panel that the affidavit would be filed soon.

The Rajkhowa Commission which has also been entrusted with the task of probing the mass rape allegations at Lungthulien will take up Naobi's case after recording the statement of the alleged rape victims.

Five police commandos of Thoubal have already been placed under suspension in connection with the case.

The Apunba Lup has been organising a series of protest meeting demanding justice and fitting punishment of the police commandos who allegedly molested Naobi in their custody.

The Lup had also demanded the resignation of the Chief Minister.
