CPM pledges defection free politics

Imphal, January 07: The state CPI (M) will actively take part in this ensuing Assembly election in the state to fight against the politics of defection, CPI(M) state committee secretary Mutum Shamu said today.

Addressing mediapersons today, Shamu and other leaders of the state CPI revealed that the party intended to field a total of ten candidates in the forthcoming Assembly elections.

Mutum Shamu further said, in view of the forthcoming Assembly election in the state CPI(M) state committee held its first phase meeting yesterday and unanimously resolved to send up Thoudam Nillakomol as an official candidate of CPI(M) to contest the ensuing election in 1-Khundrakpam Assembly constituency.

He said the CPI(M) have never been involved in the dirty political games which have been played by other political parties and said it will be very unfortunate for the state if the dirty politicians appear as new faces after leaving their old party.

He further said that CPI(M) will never field any candidates or politicians who tried to enter the CPI(M) after they missed the tickets from others political parties in the state.

Meanwhile, state CPI(M) secretariat member Sarat Salam further said even though CPI(M) had only a small presence in the state, altogether 25 applicants have submitted applications for the party ticket from different constituencies so far, but the state committee of the CPI (M) is expecting to field only about 10 candidates.

A second phase state committee meeting is to be held on January 13 in this regard, he said.

He said the state CPI(M) will field candidates in the constituencies of Khundrakpam, Kakching, Jiribam, Keirao, Mayang Imphal, Singjamei, Sagolband, Naoriya Pakhanglakpa, Konthoujam, and Sugunu A/C.He said, CPI(M) will make maximum sacrifice in this ensuing election and there may be pre-poll alliances with DPP, CPI and JD(S) in this election, but they will never go with Congress I, BJP and other partners of NDA.

He said, the CPI(M) main objectives were to fight against the culture of defection which have caused instability, financial crunch and undevelopment in the state.

Thrust will also be given to economic development and then development through peace in the state, he said.

He said, the chairman of Left Front, West Bengal Biman Basu and CPI(M) politburo member Nurul Huda ex-MP will be visiting Imphal on January 24 next to conduct ground assessment in view of the forth coming election.
