Imphal, January 05 2010: The tense situation prevailing in Nongpok Keithelmanbi area following the Nongbrang incident has been defused after a joint meeting which was also attended by Ministers and MLAs.

Following an understanding arrived at today's meeting, the situation has returned to normal.

Nongpok Keithelmanbi area was gripped in a tense situation in the aftermath of the shooting and injuring of three women of Nongbrang allegedly by KNF (P) cadres on December 22 and subsequent killing of two youths by an irate mob.

While Nongbrang villagers claimed that the deceased youths were KNF (P) cadres, family members and other organisations contended that the duo were students.

Today's joint meeting which also featured a lunch programme was held under the initiative of the SPF Government and Keithelmanbi Juvenile Club.

The meeting held at Nongpok Keithelmanbi Keithel was also attended by Ministers N Biren, K Ranjit, DD Thaisii, MLAs M Oken, Doukhomang Khongsai, Thangminlen Kipgen, Haokholet Khongsai and Babita, wife of local MLA (Andro A/C) Th Shyamkumar.

Representatives of United Committee Manipur, All Tribal Students' Union Manipur, ANSAM, KSO and chiefs and leaders of surrounding villages were also present at the meeting.

Many speakers addressing the meeting called upon all to avert such untoward incidents in future.

They appealed to all communities to throw away all bad feelings and live together harmoniously.
