Imphal, January 05 2008: The identities of the two persons who were found shot dead by unidentified gunmen at Koutruk Lairou under Lamlai Police Station of Imphal West district yesterday as well as the four suspected UGs who were shot dead by security forces in separate incidents of encounter over the last few days have been established.

The two victims of the Koutruk incident were Khaidem Nipamacha (31) son of Nimai and Chingtham Naoba (18) s/o Jiban.

Both were residents of of Phumlou Keiroi Awang Leikai.

According to family members, Naoba, Nipamacha and three other local youths have been picked up by some unidentified gunmen on the night of December 3 while they were warming themselves after making a fire at Phumlou Awang Leikai Thongkhong.

Though the three local youths managed to reach home from Chirang village side after they beaten up and released blindfolded in the wee hours yesterday, Naoba and Nipamacha were found shot dead.

The released three local youths as well as Naoba did not have connection with any underground organisation, although Nipamacha was a former cadre of a UG group.

On the other hand, the identities of the two UG suspects reported to be shot dead by a combined force of Imphal West District Police Commandos and personnel of 12 MLI during an encounter yesterday afternoon at the hillop of Ishok Chingphu in Bishnupur district have also been established today.

They were Sorokhaibam Nehru Singh (48) of Charangpat Mayai Leikai and Khangembam Priyokumar (40) of Wangjing.

Denying the police claim, family members of Priyokumar said he was a contractor and did not have connection with any underground organisation.

He had gone out from home yesterday morning.

He left behind his wife and two children.

Meanwhile, the identities of another two UG suspects who were shot dead by Bishnupur district police commandos during a reported encounter at Okhalok of Kha-Potsangbam Maning in Bishnupur district in the morning of December 2 have also been established.

Of the two slain UG suspects, the body of Maibam Sanjoy (27) s/o Ibomcha of Kangvai Mayai Leikai was identified yesterday.

The identity of the other UG suspect was established as Irengbam Kumar (25) s/o Iboyaima of the same locality as his mother happened to be among those who came to take the body of Sanjoy from the mortuary of RIMS today.

On seeing the corpse of her son lying in the morgue, although she had come to take another body, mother of Kumar fainted.

It is informed that Kumar was a construction worker and he left behind his wife, two sons and one daughter.

He had reportedly gone out from home in the morning of December 2 along with Sanjoy.
