Imphal, November 03 2008: Coming out strongly against the rise in the violent incidents of bomb attacks in different parts of the Northeast claiming many innocent lives, United NGOs Mission, Manipur and North East Dialogue Forum have stated that any act of terrorism perpetrated behind the mask of 'freedom struggle' should not be condoned at all.

It may be noted here that 81 persons have been killed while over 300 others wounded in the serial bomb blasts which took place at Guwahati, Barpeta, Kokrajhar and Bongaigaon in Assam on October 30 .

On the other hand, lives of 17 persons were snuffed out while around 35 others sustained injuries in the October 21 night bomb blast near the gate of Ragailong village at Imphal.

Prior to this, two persons were killed while over 40 others suffered injuries in another bomb attack at Agartala, the capital city of Tripura on October 1 last.

Addressing a press conference jointly in this connection at Manipur Press Club here today, secretary of United NGOs Mission, Manipur U Nobokishore said it is high time on the part of all those individuals or groups responsible for carrying out such attacks to think over the suffering caused to common people and its possible ramifications.

After every bomb attack, the Government would think of deploying more military despite knowing well that it is not the solution.

There has been no definite guidelines to solve the problem of law and order, Nobokishore said, adding that the Government should also pay serious attention to this matter.

Besides the incident of bomb attacks, United NGOs Mission, Manipur and North East Dialogue Forum have also strongly denounced the of burning down of a passenger bus at Naorijan in Assam on the night of October 23 which left charred two passengers to death while injuring several others.

Addressing the press conference, member of United NGOs Mission, Manipur OJ Meetei exhorted every section of the society to come forward and start a movement against targeting innocent people.

Secretary of Women Action for Development Mangsatabam Subita who was also present at the press conference demanded to know whether the responsibility of the Government ends only in giving ex-gratia to the bereaved families of those killed in such bomb attacks or some financial assistance towards meeting the medical expenses of the injured.

Is it not the first and foremost responsibility of the Government to protect and ensure the security of the people to lead a peaceful life in the society ?, she wondered.

Chairman of United NGOs Mission, Manipur Tamthing Ruivanao and EC member JM Peter were also present at the press conference.
