Bomb attack at hospital

Imphal, October 31 2009: Unidentified persons triggered a bomb inside a closet where electric generator for Imphal Hospital was kept at about 11.30 am today.

Except for some damage to a scooter, there was no casualty because of the explosion.

According to information culled from the spot, some people saw an unidentified man wearing black pants going inside the generator room, to the left of Imphal Hospital's main gate minutes before the explosion.

Thinking that the man might be a staff of the hospital, very little attention was paid to the man.

But moments after the man came out of the room hurriedly, there was a loud explosion.

However, the explosion caused no casualty except for some damage to a scooter kept near the generator.

Police personnel who arrived there after the explosion could not identify the type of the explosive.

Unidentified persons lobbed another bomb at the residence of Hiyanglam Gram Panchayat Pradhan Elangbam Rajni at about 4.35 pm yesterday.

Though the bomb failed to go off, the Lotus Club Hiyanglam has strongly condemned the attack.

The club has also appealed to all concerned not to repeat such attacks in civilian populated areas in future.

Meanwhile, another bomb exploded at the residence of one Md Abdul Kadir at Yairipok Kekru at about 7.10 pm yesterday.

Although there was no human casualty in the explosion, three water tanks were destroyed besides causing damages to doors, windows and GI sheets of the roof.

The Kekru Mohammedan Union Youth Cub, Kekru Development Youth Club, Immortal Club and Eastern Star Union have strongly condemned the attack at Md Abdul Kadir's residence.

They also appealed to all concerned not to repeat such activities in future.
