Thoubal commandos gun down two PLA suspects

Imphal, January 31 2010: Two suspected PLA cadres have been slain in a reported encounter with Thoubal police commandos at Langmeithet under Yairipok police station in Thoubal district in the wee hours today.

According to a press release issued by Thoubal SSP Clay Khongsai, Thoubal police commandos, acting on a specific information about presence of PLA cadres around Ukhongsang and Langmeithet area, moved in and conducted a cordon and search operation.

The shoot-out broke out in the course of the search operation.

One hour into the search operation which began at around 3 am, unidentified persons attacked the commandos using sophisticated weapons from two directions from the side of a paddy field located to the East of Langmeithet.

Notwithstanding a thick fog which enveloped the area, the commandos acting skilfully succeeded in driving off the suspected UG cadres.

Two UG suspects were also slain in the encounter which last for around 30 minutes.

On searching the encounter site later, one AK rifle, two magazines with 20 live rounds, 15 empty cases, one lethode gun, two bombs, one empty shell of a bomb, one RT set damaged by impact of bullet and two wallets containing Rs 560 were recovered, added the SSP.

Police have retrieved the two corpses and deposited at RIMS mortuary.

Although exact identities of the slain individuals could not be confirmed till the time of filing this report, a driving licence issued in the name of RK Dinachandra s/o Sanayaima of Shamushang was recovered from one of them.
