Imphal, August 30 2009: Families of the Involuntarily Disappeared's Association, Manipur, (FIDAM) extended solidarity to the families of disappeared persons of Asia and beyond on the occasion of 26th International Day of the Disappeared.

FIDAM, in a statement, said that the phenomena of disappearing people have been occurring since the imposition of AFSPA in the State.

Some of the families filed habeas corpus petition and the Court in turn directed to grant compensation to them.

However, the release said, no perpetrator has been convicted till date.

The Government of India has not ratified the International Convention for Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance, 2002, it said.

FIDAM further urged the International community through Asian Federation Against Involuntary Disappearance Against Involuntary Disappearance (AFAD) and United Nations working group on enforced or involuntary disappearances to pressurise India in connection with the observance of the day.
