Two slain at Canchipur & Napetpalli

Imphal, December 29 2008: In a reported encounter between security forces and UG cadres, one suspected cadres of KCP (MC) has been killed near Catholic School, Canchipur along Liwa Road under Singjamei police station at about 7 pm today.

According to police sources, a combined force of Imphal West commandos and troops of 32 AR laid an ambush in the area as they received specific information that some KCP(MC) cadres would be coming to Catholic School to make monetary demand on the school.

Soon the security personnel saw 2/3 persons approaching the area in suspicious manner.

On being challenged to stop, the unidentified persons fired upon the security personnel.

As the combined force retaliated, one was killed while the others managed to escape under cover of darkness.

One country made carbine, one magazine with three live rounds, one .36 hand grenade and two packs of plastic explosive (PEK) have been recovered the slain individual.

As per the driving licence recovered the individual, he might be one MM Taslim (21) s/o Md Karim of Lilong Mairenkhul.

Police have picked up the corpse and deposited at RIMS mortuary.

Meanwhile a combined force of Imphal East Police Commandos and personnel of 23 Assam Rifles shot dead a suspected activist of the proscribed KCP (MC) during an alleged encounter which took place at Napetpalli under Lamlai Police Station at around 6.30 pm today.

According to police report, the encounter took place while the combined force was advancing following specific information about the presence of UGs in the area and the UG suspect was killed in the retaliatory firing.

One 9 mm pistol, three live rounds of ammunition and a note pad have been seized from the possession of the slain UG, the police report said, adding that the slain UG is suspected to be an activist of the proscribed KCP (MC).

The police have picked up the body and deposited it at the mortuary of RIMS.
