Imphal, December 27 2009: Atleast five persons, including three of a family, suffered injuries of varying degrees when unidentified miscreants triggered a grenade blast this evening near a private medical centre located along the RIMS road.

As per police report, two unidentified persons on a Yamaha motorcycle lobbed the hand grenade, with the private medical centre (Sky Hospital) seemingly the intended target, setting off the explosion at about 6 pm today.

The injured persons included a woman, one of the three family members, one of their companion, and a private security guard of the said hospital.

Three family members wounded in blast have been identified as Hijam Chacha (40) s/o H Ibomcha, Bibi Devi (34) w/o H Chacha, Chacha's younger brother H Premjit from Patsoi Part-IV .

While Sagolsem Rameshor alias Khaba s/o Chura of Keinou Thongkhong is informed to be the individual who had accompanied the Hijam family and got injured, identity of the private security personnel has been established as Sorokhaibam Tomba (34) s/o (L) Yaima of Kwakeithel Heinou Khongnembi.

With the exception of the security guard, the four persons hurt in the blast were reportedly about to return home together in an auto-rickshaw (MN01R/8122) after enquiring condition of a patient admitted at Sky hospital.

As they were about to move, the blast took place resulting in all four suffering splinter wounds.

Rameshor is informed to a be distant relative of H Chacha, himself a commando personnel of Imphal East district police.

Meanwhile, condition of Premjit, who is also a rifleman of 6th Bn IRB, is stated to be serious having suffered injury on the left cheek area.

Chacha sustained bomb splinter wound on left side of the buttock area, Bibi Devi on the left arm, leg and chest areas while Rameshor was injured on the left leg.

While the four have been admitted to RIMS Hospital, private security guard Tomba is undergoing treatment at Sky Hospital itself.

Some cars parked near the private hospital were also damaged.
