Imphal, August 25: City Police today arrested a 42-year old man from Major Khul area for selling dressed Chicken meat after killing the fowls himself in defiance of the ban imposed against such activities within 5 kms radius of the Chingmeirong farm from where outbreak of Bird flu was first reported in the State.

The man was later produced in the court of JMIC Imphal for summary trial.

The police have also reportedly seized all the meat from his possession.

According to police source, the man was arrested from Brilliant Chicken Centre located near Major Khul Community Hall for defying the restriction.

Along with the arrest of the owner, the man in question was produced before the Court for summary trial, the source added.

Information received from the Veterinary Department said police handed over 2 kgs of meat and feathers seized from the Chicken centre and the same have been buried.

To a question on transportation of chicks to Manipur by aeroplanes, a Department official clarified there is no restriction in bringing chicks by aeroplane.

However, bringing them within 5 kms radius of the Chingmeirong farm is not allowed and can be penalised if found violating the order.

On the other hand, MLA of Tipaimukh Constituency has communicated to Veterinary Department in connection with death of chickens in mass in Tipaimukh area of Churachandpur district and outbreak of an unknown epidemic among cows and pigs.

On the other hand, MLA of Tipaimukh A/C Ngurshanglur has reportedly communicated to the Veterinary Department requesting for sending in a team of veterinary doctors in connection with death of chicken in mass and outbreak of an unknown epidemic among cows and pigs in his constituency.

Consequently, the Veterinary Department has made necessary arrangement for despatching a special team of veterinary doctors to the area.
