Imphal, May 24 2009: A sit-inprotest was staged by meira paibis and local people to denounce the gun attack at the residence of the Principal of S Chaoba Memorial English School, S Ibohal by unidentified gunmen in the night of May 22 at Singjamei Bheigyabati Leikai, Kongba road today.

Condemning the attack, the protestors put up placards inscribed with slogans such as 'Make education a free zone,' 'Spell out the reason for the gun attack,' 'Treat educational institutions as public properties,' etc.

According to the Principal of the school, the proscribed KCP had earlier served a demand note of Rs 3 lakhs on the school.

Stating that there are only 230 students in the school, the Principal said that it is impossible to meet the demand of Rs 3 lakhs and added that demanding such a huge amount from a small school is inhuman.

Coming out strongly against the gun attack, the Principal said that it is better to close down the school than to put one's life at risk.

Apart from the meira paibis and local people, the school faculty and students also took part in the protest demonstration.
