Police remand for IRB man

Imphal, August 23 2009: The IRB Rifleman, who was allegedly paid by proscribed KCP (MC) to lob the hand grenade at Chamber of Commerce Hospital, Thangal Bazar on August 21, that left three persons including an eight-year old girl injured, was remanded to police custody for seven days by a Court here yesterday.

Judicial Magistrate, First Class, Imphal issued an order remanding the accused Rifleman identified as Tayenjam Munal (37) s/o late Tomcha to police custody till August 28 .

Posted in 2nd IRB, Munal was rounded up by the people from Dharmashala area, minutes after the grenade attack.

Munal is a resident of Yairipok Yambem Khunou Kamong but staying in a rented room at Sanakeithel Fisheries Crossing area.

City police have registered an FIR against Munal under sections 307/326/384 of IPC read along with sections 17/20 of UA (P) A Act and section 25 (1-B) of Arms Act.

The prosecutor pleaded for remanding him to police custody for 10 days.

But the Court granted the remand for only seven days.

Meanwhile, bomb experts of the State Police Dept yesterday afternoon retrieved an unexploded hand grenade, suspected to have been lobbed by unidentified armed persons, from the Khurai Sajor Leikai Tinsid Road residence of Leishangthem Itocha (52) who is an SO in the Public Works Department.
