MPP to call on Governor today on AG shooting incident

Imphal, March 21 2010: A team of Manipur People Party (MPP) is scheduled to call on with the Governor of the state, Gurbachan Jagat to press him for government appropriate action into the incident of shooting to injure of Advocate General, N Koteshwar, involving ministers.

President of the party Dr Nimaichand Luwang will lead the meeting with the Governor which would urge him to translate into action the demands put forward by the party in a memorandum submitted yesterday which also forwarded to the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, UPA chairman, Sonia Gandhi and Union Home Minister, P Chidambaram, party source said today.

The party is not taking lightly the matter of the shooting to injure of the advocate genera as two ministers of SPF government, Works minister K Ranjit and Tribal Development minister, DD Thaisii involved in the incident, the party source added.

After calling on with the Governor, he will brief the media about the fallout of the meeting, Nimaichand confirmed when contacted over phone.

He said the party took seriously the matter and during the meeting with Governor, they will press the government institute inquiry into the incident or handover the case to an independent investigative like the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), he added.

Mention may be made here that in the memorandum submitted by the MPP to the Governor yesterday demanded investigation in a free and fair manner without tampering of evidences and without the influence of the offender in official positions.

It urged the Governor to grant sanction to prosecute O Ibobi, Works minister, K Ranjit and minister, DD Thaissi by asking them to step down in the best spirit towards delivering justice and respecting democratic principles and the rule of law.

"They should not hold any official any official positions until they are proved innocent.

They may be installed the moment they are proved innocent and come out clean," the memorandum demand.
