Imphal, October 20 2008: One suspected UG cadre has been shot dead in a reported encounter with Thoubal police commandos at Thoubal Khunou Chingya, about 5 kms North East of Thoubal police station this morning.

A press release issued by the SP of Thoubal district informed that a combined team of Thoubal district commandos and troops of 34 AR were conducting frisking and checking in Thoubal Khunou area when a youth approached them in a suspicious manner.

The youth, when asked by the security personnel to stop, drew a pistol and ran towards the nearby ridge firing along the way.

The security personnel retaliated killing the suspected UG cadre.

According to police sources, the encounter ensued when a team of commandos, acting on specific information about the presence of UG cadres in Thoubal Khunou area, moved into the area.

The shoot-out which took place near a market shed at about 11.15 am claimed a suspected UG cadre while two others managed to escape.

One 9 mm pistol and three live rounds were recovered from the slain individual.

The slain individual with slim figure and fair complexion was found wearing white checked shirt and grey coloured cargo pants.

He was wearing ring on the left ear.

The slain individual had a mole on the left cheek.

Police have picked up the corpse and deposited at RIMS mortuary.
