Youth killed by AR turns out to be a handyman

Imphal, March 20 2010: The youth killed by the troops of 28 Assam Rifles at Kongba Irong under Irilbung police station on the night of March 18 was a handyman of a passenger bus.

The slain youth, Hawaibam Amuthoi (17) son of Ibobi of Sekmaijin Mamang Leikai, was a handyman of 407 canter bus "Hingminashi" servicing from Wabagai to Imphal.

Family members established the identity today.

They said, he has been missing since he was abducted by three persons suspected to be security personnel in civil dress from the Andro Parking, Konung Mamang in the afternoon of March 17, at about 2 pm.

Decrying the killing of a youth in alleged encounter after picked up, residents of Sekmaijin area today staged a sit-in protest at the locality which was followed by a public meeting that resolved several resolutions.

Taking part in the meeting, driver of the bus which Amuthoi was the handyman, Jibon revealed that Amuthoi was picked by three suspected security personnel in civil dress while the bus was parking at Andro Parking waiting for turn for going to Wabagai after the reaching Imphal with the passenger for the day.

No sooner has the bus parked at Andro Parking, he showed Amuthoi talking with three unknown persons nearby the vehicle.

They also asked his details which he replied as driver of the vehicle.

One of the persons asked him to take out documents of the vehicle but when he moved to the vehicle to take the documents, he asked him to remain sit inside the bus.

From the bus showed them talking each other.

After then, while ordering him not to look at them, took away Amuthoi to an auto-rickshaw.

Two among the three persons were Meetei, Jibon said adding that the other one seems to be non-local.

Amuthoi was the fourth of six children of the family.

He worked as handyman to help the family after his father Ibobi could not run the family due to poor health condition for the last around three to four year back.

His father is ailing now.

In the meeting today, a JAC was formed against the killing and resolved to press government to award befitting punishments to the AR personnel involved in the killing of Amuthoi and relief compensations and other to the victim family.

The meeting also decided to lodge a complaint with the Chief Minister tomorrow demanding justice to the killing incident.
