Imphal, November 16 2008: The unending violence happening everywhere in the State was strongly condemned during a children cultural programme organised by IVRC, NLVDC, YDOSVDC, CWC, Bishnupur and CHAHA under the theme, 'Promote culture among the children is to promote child friendly environment' at Sendra public ground today.

Even as song and dance programmes were the main attractions of the programme organised for the children of Ithing, Sendra, Nungjenkom, Kwakta Khunou and Chingningkhul, the participating children also urged the concerned to shun violence and stop bomb and gun culture through playcards that read, We want peace, we are human being, We want to live in freedom, Do not create terror, Do not ruin our Right to Life, Stop trafficking, Keep us away from guns and bombs and Do not kill us.

Giving keynote address in the programme, Sanjenbam Development Centre secretary L Pishak said that it is time to deliberate on how far children in the State have got their rights.

He said that children in the State have not got their due rights which are mentioned in the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), like right to live without any fear, right to development, right to education and right to participation due to the violence happening everywhere.

Pishak also questioned on the efforts of the Indian Government in delivering all these rights to the children of the State.

The programme was organised to bring the sense of unity and harmony to the minds of the children, Pishak added.
