Imphal, November 14 2008: Decrying the violent incidents of killing and urging all concerned to allow the people to live in peace, a mass sit-in-protest demonstration was staged at Thamnapokpi of Bishnupur district today.

Participated collectively by youth and Meira Paibis of Kwakta, Thamnapokpi, Sendra, Ithing, Nungjengkong and Naransena, the protest demonstration was organised jointly by Ithing Village Reformation Committee, Nungjeng Leikai Village Development Committee, Youth Development Organisation (Kwakta), Sendra Village Development Committee and Women's Development Association (Naransena).

Talking to mediapersons at the occasion, secretary of Women's Development Association (Naransena) Chanambam Ongbi Nandarani said people of Manipur would never be able to accept the current trend of killing people without any trial both by the security forces and the armed cadres of the underground organisations.

Security forces and the underground organisations should think over again and again whether triggering bombs in public places leading to death or maiming for life of many innocent persons and killing of arrested persons without conducting any trial is right or wrong, Nandarani said.

60-year old Moirangthem Nilamani, a social worker, who participated in the protest demonstration, nostalgically recalled that there was a time when everyone, young and old alike, used to live in peace.

At that time, there was no fear that a man may be killed in a bomb blast or after being picked up on false charges after he went out of the house.

But today elder members of the family remained worried until the children who have gone to school or for tuition, or young persons who have gone out of the house for some reason or the other, returned home.

'People are fed up of living under the shadow of this fear so much so that we took time out from our busy scheduled of works in this peak harvesting season to participate in the protest demonstration', the elderly man added.

Secretary of Sustainable Development Centre N Pishak, who was also present at the occasion, said perpetrators of violence, whether it be the State actors or the non-State actors should listen to the cries of the people to lead a peaceful life without any fear and terror in their minds.

The protestors further said that the security forces and the underground organisations should not victimised the people in carrying out their respective duties.
