Imphal, October 14 2009: The All Manipur Working Journalists' Union, besides deciding to stick to its stand of boycotting the SPF Government, has also taken some other decisions, to be in force, until its demands are met.

In a statement, AMWJU said that the decisions were taken during a special general body meeting held at the Press Club on October 13, with AMWJU president S Hemant and the editor of news magazine, Yumjakeisha, Gokulananda Sharma in the chair.

After minutely discussing the October 10 incident as well as the reaction of the Government, four decisions were adopted unanimously.

Apart from deciding to carry on with the stand to the Government, the general body meeting also decided to demand a change in the chain of command in the police establishment.

Explaining, AMWJU said that instead of taking up action against the police commandos, who not only insulted the two scribes but even went to extent of raising the cock of their gun and threatening them with words like "Shall we open fire ? Who will know if we say that you were killed in an encounter," the police came out with concocted stories, cooking up charges against the two reporters.

AMWJU further said that even as the Spokesman of the Government had sent a formal invitation to talk over the matter and settle the issue, the SSP of Imphal West police issued a statement, with false charges against the two reporters.

This has only made the situation more grave, said AMWJU and added that the statement of the SSP should be withdrawn.

It was also resolved that until and unless some visible actions are taken up in connection with the October 10 incident, no talks will be held with the Government.

The Union also decided to condemn the news content of the All India Radio, Imphal Regional News Unit for broadcasting an unbalanced news report on the October 10 incident.
