Imphal, April 07 2009: The JAC Against the killing Mayengbam Nanao Singh and Ahongsangbam Chourjit Singh which is demanding the Government to investigate into the matter and find out the truth has suspended its decision of calling a general strike with effect from midnight today to midnight tomorrow.

The decision to suspend the proposed general strike of the JAC for sometime has been arrived at after a joint meeting with Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh at his official bungalow here today.

Apart from representatives of the JAC, family members of the two slain persons and local MLA Usham Deben were also present during the meeting.

Consequent to the meeting, the family members have taken the bodies of Nanao and Chourjit for performing the last rites.

It may be recalled here that Mayengbam Nanao s/o M Anou Singh of Wabagai Yangbi Maning Leikai and Ahongsangbam Chourjit Singh s/o A Maipak Singh of Wabagai Thingel Leikai were found shot dead along the road leading to Irengband at around 8.30 pm of April 2 after having picked up by a combined force of security personnel from Wabagai Terapokpi Thongyai Thongjin earlier during the day.

Both of them reportedly left home carrying R 7000 in connection with purchasing fingerlings from Kodompokpi.

On April 3, SSP of Thoubal District had issued an statement informing that two unidentified UG suspects were shot dead in an encounter.

In protest against the killing, the JAC has been formed and raised the demand for conducting a judicial inquiry, punishment of the security personnel involved in the killing and providing source of livelihood for the surviving wives and children of the deceased.

Over these same demands, the JAC had also refused to take back the bodies.
