Imphal, January 07: The underground United National Liberation Front, UNLF, has stated that it does not accept nor recognize any election held under Indian auspicious, and has clarified that the UNLF does not support any candidate or any party contesting in the forthcoming elections to the State Assembly.

The outfit, in a lengthy statement issued by its department of publicity, said that building a new Manipur through the corrupt and debilitating Indian political system was impossible.

A new Manipur is possible only after uprooting Indian rule and exercising the right to self-determination, the statement said.

It maintained that participating in Indian elections amounted to legalizing colonial rule with a veneer of democracy, and mortgaging the right to self determination for a period of five years.

It also amounts to an invitation to the India security forces to continue their excesses for another five years, the statement said.

The UNLF also said Indian elections was a factor in weakening Manipurs unity and integrity due to the free resort to sectarian and communal political platforms in order to win elections.

Attacking the nature of politicians, the outfit observed that after seducing the public with impossible promises, once in power, politicians were too busy filling their own pockets to spare a thought for the welfare of the people.

It pointed out that last year, while the peoples so-called representatives were busy fighting for power, an assault upon Manipurs territorial integrity had occurred.

The situation in the state might have been different if the people had not staged an uprising on that occasion, it stated.

It said the Indian political system was steeped in corruption and even honest people became corrupt once they joined politics.

It maintained that the Indian political system was thus weakening the national character of the people of Manipur, and said it would be impossible to produce a true peoples representative who would sincerely work for the people, through the Indian political system.
