Tripura blasts alerts State cops

Imphal, October 04: Taking into account the festive season and in the backdrop of the recent serial blasts at Tripura capital Agartala, security measures have been further tightened up here in the State as pre-emptive step from disruptive acts.

In addition to security force personnel put on alert round the clock in view of the law and order uncertainty that had been besieging the insurgency-hit State for the last many decades, mobile security teams have begun intense patrolling in the city areas while frisking and random cordon and search operations have been intensified.

Elaborating on the security steps, Senior Superintendent of Police of Imphal West district L kailun said, "We have made special arrangements across the capital to thwart any kind of terror attacks after the serial blasts at Agartala.

Conceding that Central authorities had provided inputs of terrorist strikes likely to be carried out in the North Eastern region, the SSP maintained that particular emphasis is to ensure calamitous events to do not occur at public places such as market places and commercial areas especially after the Tripura capital came under attacks.

Pointing to the porous nature of border Manipur sector of the country shares with neighbouring countries for the State taking the security issue very seriously, Kailun however confided that there is no specific proof as yet of terrorists (Jehadi) groups having sneaked into Manipur.

When pointed to the Muslim armed group PULF, he further stated that there is no report of this outfit having links with terror groups but added 'we are on high alert and keeping constant tap to ascertain any possible links with terror groups'.

Substantiating the SSP's contention, sources in the army affirmed that after the blasts in Agartala all army posts in the state have been put on high alert in the form of intensified patrolling and vigil in border areas.
