Naobi's issue raised in House

Imphal, March 03: Categorically stating that the rule of law must prevail, Heingang Assembly Constituency MLA, N Biren today demanded to know under what charges M Naobi Chanu was picked up by Thoubal police commandos and subjected to physical beatings.

Moving the issue during zero hour and drawing the attention of the Chief Minister, the MLA observed that Naobi was arrested on certain charges and was released later by the Judicial Magistrate after the police failed to substantiate the charges levelled against her.

Moreover the young woman has also recounted the sordid ordeals and harassments she had to undergo at the hands of the police commandos, said the MLA.

Fitting punishment ought to be given to the guilty as it has been established that the charges against Naobi could not be substantiated which in effect means that she was innocent, maintained the MLA.

The rule of the law must prevail, added Biren.

Joining in, MLA L Ibomcha said that Naobi was tortured and her womanhood defiled by the police commandos.

At last she was released as the Court found her innocent, said the MLA and added that this incident has tarnished the image of the police commandos.
