Imphal, July 01 2009: Following the series of attacks on non-local migrant workers by unidentified armed persons, a meeting chaired by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and attended by DCs and SPs of the four valley districts has chalked out a seriesof measures to protect the migrant workers.

Disclosing this to The Sangai Express, a reliable source informed that during the meeting, which was also attended by Chief Secretary DS Poonia and DGP Y Joykumar, the Chief Minister gave strong instruction to the police for taking up necessary measures to stop killing and targeting of migrant workers by unknown gunmen.

Today's meeting had also deliberated seriously on the law and order situation in the State, the source added.

Meanwhile, in a statement made available to the press, Senior SP of Imphal West District L Kailun has reiterated appeal to the non-Manipuri/migrant workers to stay and work within the Municipality areas/Imphal Bazaar areas only and not to venture out in the far flung an interior areas to avoid unwanted incidents.

Furthermore, the general public have also been requested to inform the district police about the presence of non-Manipuri/migrant workers in their houses/areas/localities so that collective security can be produced.

In this regard, the SSP said that the district police can be contacted on telephone nos 2450159 (SSP/IW), 2450214 (Control Room), 2450002 (Imphal SP) and 2458515 (City PS).
